THE STORY OF THE ALLIANCE

The American Samoa Alliance against Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (ASADSV), also known as "the Alliance" was formed soon after one of the worst recorded disasters struck American Samoa in September 2009.
The Alliance grew out of desire by founding members to strengthen the work in the Territory in: developing services, forging ongoing community awareness, education and providing support through training and technical assistance for existing and potential services that speak to domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of violence within the territory. |

Guiding Principles
During the Alliance's Strategic Planning Retreat in 2026, Board members, staff and stakeholders participated in a collaborative values-identification exercise to review cultural values that define who we are and how we work within the community.
The group identified ten important Samoan values that represent the heart of our work: Feagaiga, Alofa, Fa'aleagaga, Fesoa'aiga, Va Feloa'i, Mamalu, Aiga, Fa'autaga, Fa'aaloalo, and Tautua. From these conversations four values were selected through consensus as the Alliance's Guiding Principles:
Alofa (Love) The work we do is grounded in compassion, empathy, and genuine care for survivors, families, partners and our community.
Tautua (Service) We are committed to each other, serving with humility, integrity, and dedication, placing the needs of our community at the center of our work.
Fa'aaloalo (Respect) We honor the dignity, voices, experiences and cultural values of every individual we encounter.
Aiga (Family) WE recognize the importance of family, community, and collective responsibility in creating safety, healing, and positive change. It really takes a village.
Fa'asinomaga (Identity) To remind us that the we do should be conscious of our people, culture, traditions, environment & social structure in American Samoa.
These principles reflect both our Samoan heritage and our commitment to building a safer, healthier, and more resilient American Samoa. adopted 7/2026
